positively Kat five!

“Cyberpunk vixen”, Kat Five is fused into so many mixes of science and nature! She is Feral Five’s lead vocalist, a musician, a solo artist in her own right and a key audio tech consultant/events speaker. Just a few of the many hats “K5” wears.

Despite modern life, across alternative music’s independence, there’s an organic swelling, with firmer foundations, of eclectic career potential coming to wider attention in no one set way.

TheZineUK’s story spins a web from their artistry. Musical activism is bringing pleasure, hope and solidarity during times that can be stressful and perilous for grassroots venues and talent, alike.

In short, POSITIVITY is still a thing!

Music is one of life’s treasures which can give us hope. What about the musicians, though?

We asked Kat Five what gives her hope?

“Community, creativity and activism. People are really coming together right now to fight for change.”

Humanity, assembling, around the world is increasingly noticeable. This brings balance to the mainstream media’s mostly negative energy. Artists are so important for representing the escapist side of life. Eccentricity is an energy.

Feral Five have just appeared live at the giant installation-as-music-festival: Electromagnetic Field, performing an electro spectacle with algorithm visuals, dance, tech, style and interaction.

In April, Kat Five’s debut solo show was wonderfully received at Cro Cro Land Festival.

Both are music stories that are going places, especially since the influential debut album from Feral Five: ‘Truth Is The New Gold’ (2023).

Everybody starts somewhere. We asked K5 “where?”

“At school! School choir, some group guitar lessons, playing that old favourite (not) 'She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain'. Music education is so important. Early influences were amazing artists I saw on TV. The standout was Chrissie Hynde as she played guitar and made anything seem possible.”

It turns out that almost anything IS possible, hence our alternative art movements in sound and vision. Fast forward from school days to having made a genuine mark on the music and tech scenes as well as media acclaim. Read TheZineUK’s Spring’24 Kat Five article for further details.

There’s news for the near future, too. What’s happening, K5?

“Unleashing new music! Planning the next Kat Five single, one of the songs I premiered live at Cro Cro Land Festival, such an amazing place to play. More shows.”

Music, Food, Drink, Joy… at Brighton's newest LGBTQ+ Bar & Restaurant. A proper treat!🌈

This event is extra special because of how this documentary rolls, amidst what’s happening right now. This is one of the interdependent music industrious that seed the Fertile Environment.

In December 2022, rock n roll live music promoter, Kick Out The Jams i.e. Roger Kent of Kent had to stop presenting joyful entertainment because of the financial climate that our new music world finds itself in.

Major events need a “pipeline” of fresh talent to exist in the future. In turn, that pipeline, The Grassroots Circuit needs the oxygene of cash, faith and exposure to be the early doors enablers for the artists to take a next step. It’s a struggle tho - see Music Venue Trust etc for more on that!

It’s extra heart warming then, to see the #BrightonMixUp festivity of noisy fun return for a third time lucky.

A select line-up, that we highly recommend to our friends - and you should, too. Sparkly, funny, inclusive crowds. Afternoon to evening showing off (on stage and otherwise!). Credible quality, mind. Some faves are returning to the KOTJ stage for this show amidst new stars joining the extending family.

Come with mates. Come solo. Bring your groovy moves, laughter and stage style while mingling with key scouts and music documentarians or just chill and enjoy in a safe space.

No tickets, badges, laminates or wristbands are needed (though this event is consistently attended by sussed music industry and media from other events happening in Brighton over the same weekend).

Not surprising really…

Kick Out The Jams has previously also presented A Void, Aargh Kid, Anna Wolf, Avalanche Party, Bang Bang Romeo, Berries, BLAB, Blackwaters, The Blinders, Bugeye, Calva Louise, Coach Party, Cross Wires, Cruel Hearts Club, Enjoyable Listens, False Heads, Fontaines D.C., Hawxx, Healthy Junkies, The Institutes, Jekyll, Mango In Euphoria, MOSES, Nadia Sheikh, Rews, Saint Agnes, Snayx, Trampolene, Vanity Fairy, The Velvet Hands, Voodoo Radio, Weekend Recovery, Wynona Bleach and MANY more names to KNOW since 2017!

Often needing a bigger venue.

We bear witness.
Mid May 2023, you can, too. It’s time to KICK OUT THE JAMS!, m…

Kylie Minogue is the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time. A genuine icon of positivity, reknown for reinventing herself in music, fashion and culture. Perfect for this collection of eclectic, electric sparky versions of her classics from Feral Five, BLAB, Piney Gir, Charley Stone, Helen McCookerybook, Natalie Shay, You The Living, Kids Love Surf, Rob Britton and many more.

An unstoppable pocket rocket, Kylie is no stranger to indie rock. A decade ago, Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers apologies for not doing better with the single ‘Some Kind Of Bliss’ which they wrote for her. Recorded with Dave Eringa (who has just worked with Asylums on their forthcoming album). He said “I was so excited to be writing lyrics for Kylie because I used to wander around in my Kylie T-shirt getting odd looks.” It was her first single not to go Top 20 (reached 22) but “Indie Kylie” is proof that this is an artist who will actually reinvent outside of the box from starting as a TV soap star pop idol. ‘Come Into My World’ is a fitting tribute.

Love At First Sight. A quality selection, God Is In The TV! This is BLAB, a BBC Introducing Artist Of The Year AND an inventive creator performer. It was meant to be.

On a personal note, I’m still buzzing from Kylie Minogue joining the Manics on stage at Shepherds Bush Empire, thanks to their collaboration. Now, in 2022, a variety show of genre interpretations from disco and industrial goth to electro pop and folk have been curated by God Is In The TV. Independent artists across Europe (with a strong contingent from the once-united kingdom) working with producers and labels to create a Kylie community of alternatives. There’s something for everyone - especially charity.

Autumn 2022’s ‘Come Into My World’ follows ‘A Carnival Of Sorts’, the Autumn 2021 REM covers album from GIITTV that raised £5,000 for Help Musicians.

Indie Kylie is joined in 2022 by a carnival of Kylie genres! Follow God Is In The TV for news updates https://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/
