Thursday 6th March 2025. Camden
Five Days After The Brits it’s The Player’s Player!
Launches Thursday 13th March, Manor Park
In Chapter 1 of TheZineUK, mover shaker, Heather Minx, took us to our first Soccer Six event. The industry’s most informal networking social. Imagine a sports day for bands.
If you live love laugh music and fun, then friends and futures are made at these gatherings. By 2025, our story is inextricably linked.
“We have to pull the goodness out of the cracks
and showcase them to the world.”
It’s the New Lunar Year and following on from Dizzy Spell setting this year’s scene with ‘A New Golden Thread’ things already grow. That article is a manifesto invitation and TheZineUK maintains our connector status at the forefront of new movements.
Like this one, the third #musosawards - Not only are there over 20 Nomination category’s (winners to be revealed on the night) but before then, there’s also a chance to appear on the Electric Ballroom’s iconic stage via the Bands Come Out To Play competition.
At a time of the hostile environment’s dystopian doom,
music is uplifting for balance.
Activity around Music Venue Trust’s alliance network recommending new names, Featured Artists Coalition, Grammy, Brits, Festival announcements, Independent Venue Week etc.
Importantly, growing artist opinions are being aired (Skin, Bjork, Lambrini Girls, Chappel Roan…many!) plus the repeated calls to put “pipeline” musicians and independent venues at the top of the so called “food chain”, we’ve been watching musicians forge a fresh force on and off stage.
Some artists are, additionally, creating the much needed, forthcoming rock n roll party for indie talent at all stages of their story by nominating and voting for a plethora of their peers. They’re all making another mark on 2025.
2025 is the 30th anniversary of the music industry’s most informal social...
Cross-community playful play time obsessions Sports and Arts. What’s not to love? In this case, Football and Music. You don’t have to know about either to participate.
Soccer Six: Spring 2024 Thursdays:
13th February The Bands Come Out To Play (The Finsbury, Manor House)
6th March The Musos Awards (Electric Ballroom, Camden)
more to come around the country over the year.
What’s The Story?
Kicking off in 1995, riding Britpop’s roller coaster to gift the scene it’s most iconic images by the Blur -v- Oasis era of 1996 (Mile End Stadium), the rock and metal power of Iron Maiden and The Darkness, football heritage heroes, celebrities of TV and Radio - so much more at iconic locations around Britain and Europe.
Time Travel: Via a swathe of increasingly celebrity-blessed tournaments, by 2015, sofa-critics were sneering that guitar bands were over, but Soccer Six Fest consistently embraced these artists, on side with band champion promoters, This Feeling (a winning team) and more. Live music is increasingly key to this day.
Post lockdown, Soccer Six really came into it’s raised game.
Reborn with grassroots music venues, their guitar band stars and over twenty years of Women’s Football - just for starters!
2021
The trickle up started with The Game Of History at Hamilton FC, during COP26, addressing youth’s environmental anxiety concerns. Inner City World Cup, another long time, community unity, Soccer Six tournament, was also back. #LoveFootball #LoveTheWorld is the way forward. “We speak one language - football.” (ICWC Liverpool)
2022. Absolute JOY.
#SoccerSixFest back at Mile End Stadium. Even the sun came out to play.
After spending 2020 inside then 2021 seated and socially distanced, there were outbreaks of excitement, love and on the pitch rivalry as rock n roll people played together, unfettered, outdoors.
2023.
Manchester. A City United. It’s debut Soccer Six weekend proved the music industry to be more cohesive in the North of England (and being an iconic music and football heritage locality, a natural second home). It was off the hook, on the pitch and on the stage. New futures were made.
TheZineUK’s #SoccerSixFest Playlist was played before the Extra Time show at Bellevue, too, wooHOO!
Next? Well, see later this year for further details!
2024.
From various Inner City World Cup events by Lovefootball happening around the country, it was again Manchester with party DJ Sana mixing Manc anthems from Take That to The Roses with Palestinian beats. Such a beautiful day, beautiful game, wonderfall wonderful world, beautiful people. Poignant, also: Modern Life can bring us down and sometimes the only way is up.
2025.
During these bleak times, the majority of human spirit has proved heroic.
This includes all joymakers. The independent artists, venues, supporters, events and audiences in the Musos Awards make for refreshing positivity. An event created (from website and artwork to nominations and votes) by musicians only is an insight to guitar music futures being made. They’re inspiring our documentary all over again.
The uplifting news is that there’s an inclusive force for good among the arts hearts and it’s gonna be happening around the land with whoever is on side.
