Caiine breaks out with new single, 'Breakdown'

“I just need someone to tell me the truth…”

Caiine's haunting and enchanting new single, 'Breakdown', is out now on BonFire Records (USA)

It's an emphatic, empathetic ballad that tells a tale of feeling change. The song oozes both Caiine’s songwriting talent and smooth but strong soulful vocals. A chilled moment that can be melancholic and comforting at the same time for anybody who can relate.

Emerging organically, by recommendation, there is a hint of a Sade meets Nina Simone in her presence, but Caiine is carving her own fresh story in the next generation of home grown, soulful pop musicians. TheZineUK crew were lucky enough to catch a live performance at The Deptford Mix Up in November 2019, with an awed, hushed audience knowing that they were part of something special.

In January 2020 Caiine was honoured with a place on the BBC Introducing Hot List 2020 of top artists to watch this year. She was additionally due to make festival appearances at SXSW, The Great Escape and Focus Wales this year... You know the rest...

On 'Breakdown', Caiine details the feeling of desperation that she was feeling. Soon after the pandemic struck it would disrupt her and all of our plans for 2020.

Originally titled "Camden Breakdown" the tune started on a train back to Manchester following a warm up gig for SXSW 2020 in Camden, London;

"We were in good spirits, we were on top form ahead of the festival, and yet despite no knowledge of what was about to unfold globally there was a real sense of unease.The track is an expression of a feeling of desperation that had been building. A feeling that change was coming somehow, somewhere, and there was nothing we could do to avoid it."

That is so relatable.

In a year where the music industry is in jeopardy, many of us can see more clearly. This includes the calibre of credible talent that we have to rebuild with. Caiine is a case in point.

The Cheshire based, alternative R&B artist found her love of music and performing as a child. She started working with her current writing partner and producer in 2017.

Their work is influenced by classic soul and contemporary rhythm'n'blues. Her previous releases, 'Fools Weep', 'Century', and 'Subdivide', all earned exposure by BBC Introducing, BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio.

Despite her youth, Caiine has been referred to as "an old soul". It'’s a phrase that fits her almost too well, but could also pertain to the timeless sound of her music. She will add to her growing, firm fan base with 'Breakdown'.
